Do I need insurance
I still suggest having insurance for situations like hospitalization or costly medications, but I don't accept insurance. Direct Primary Care is ideal for individuals regardless of whether they have insurance.
How long are the appointments?
It varies based on your health requirements and personal preferences. While there are no predetermined appointment durations, I strive to make sure we both feel there is ample time.
What is included in the monthly fee?
All of Dr. Carter's professional services such as medical management, sick visits, annual physical exams are covered by the monthly fee.
What is not included in the monthly fee?
Labs, imaging, medications, and hospitalizations are excluded. Nevertheless, with pre-negotiated rates for labs and imaging, it is frequently less expensive than using insurance and paying through the traditional model.
What if I need hospitalization
In most situations, Dr. Carter can admit you to Norman Regional and serve as your attending physician. However, if you choose a different hospital, Dr. Carter is not affiliated with any others at this time.
What is the minimum commitment and what if I make an appointment and decide either Dr. Carter, or the DPC model is not right for me?
The initial month's payment is required before your first appointment. If you choose not to continue seeing Dr. Carter after your initial visit, no additional charges will apply. Should you decide to continue and join the practice, fees will be charged quarterly. You may cancel your membership at any time, but any fees already paid will not be refunded.
Do you do in-office procedures?
Dr. Carter performs certain procedures in the office. Generally, these are covered by the monthly fee, but occasionally, some procedures might require a small additional charge to cover supply costs. For detailed information about specific procedures, please consult Dr. Carter.
If Dr. Carter is unable to perform the procedure you require, you will be directed to someone who can.
Does Dr. Carter do house calls?
Yes! In fact, while getting the office up and operational, the practice will be exclusively house calls for some time. If you are located outside of the midtown area, there may be a small extra fee for house calls.
Is Dr. Carter available 24/7/365?
Just like everyone, Dr. Carter does need some vacation and time off. But you'll know well in advance so that all requests for medication refills can be addressed and you can be seen for anything you need prior to Dr. Carter being unavailable. Furthermore, even while on vacation, he will often still be reachable for urgent issues should they arise.
How do I get in contact with him and and how quickly can I be seen?
You can contact Dr. Carter by text, phone, or the electronic medical record system portal and usually you can be seen same day or next day. Often issues can be addressed by phone, text, or telehealth visit, but when they can't be, either a home visit or office visit can be scheduled in a timely manner.
Does Dr. Carter prescribe controlled substances
This is case by case. Dr. Carter's philosophy is generally to minimize use of opioid pain medications. However sometimes opioids or other controlled substances are appropriate.
